Residents of ward six in George will go to the polls on Wednesday to contest a by-election.
The Independent Electoral Commission says the ward was previously represented by the Democratic Alliance and became vacant as a result of the death of a councilor.
IEC spokesperson, Kate Bapela, says the ward is being contested by two independent candidates, the DA, ANC, COPE and a candidate from the Independent Civic Organisation of South Africa.
Polling stations open at 7am and close at 9pm.
By-elections are also taking place in other parts of the Western Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga and the Northern Cape.
