The trade union Hospersa says it will act in solidarity with senior state doctors in Port Elizabeth, should any disciplinary action be taken against them.
The union says it also takes exception to the threats by the Department of Health after the doctors broke protocol to take the unprecedented step of speaking out against poor service delivery at state hospitals in Nelson Mandela Bay.
Hospersa says the fact that these doctors and health care workers have been pushed to the point where they can now only offer emergency services to patients - demonstrates that serious intervention measures ought to have occurred a long time ago.
The Bhisho Health Department said on Tuesday that letters are being prepared, calling on the senior doctors at Dora Nginza, Livingstone and Provincial Hospitals, to give reasons why they should not face disciplinary action.
