Three homes were completely destroyed after a fire broke out in Bushwillow Drive in Beacon Bay in East Lodnon on Monday.
A spokesperson for the Buffalo City Municipality Samkelo Ngwenya says another house was partially burned down and one home's braai area was gutted in the fire causing damage estimated to be around R11 million.
He says ten of the city's firefighters assisted by two fire engines were on the scene.
Nobody was hurt in the fires.
According to reports, several fires are being dealt with in the Metro at the moment.
Police spokesperson Captain Hazel Mqala, says they are still investigating the cause of the fire.
According to Ngwenya, the fires could have been caused by a veld fire as it is 30 degrees Celcius in East London with strong winds and dry conditions.
Other areas where fires broke out include the N2 Freeway, Kaysers Beach and Buffalo Flats.
Residents are also urged to be cautious and not start any fires.
