The Department of Home Affairs says it will appeal a recent court ruling that overturned its decision to close its Port Elizabeth refugee reception office.
Director-general, Mkuseli Apleni, says this decision was taken by Home Affairs Minister, Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma.
The department announced last October that it would close its Sidon Street offices because of complaints from surrounding businesses.
However, a recent ruling by judge Jeremy Pickering ordered the department of home affairs to re-open the refugee centr with immediate effect.
The matter is being fought by the Somali Association of South Africa and the Project for Conflict Resolution and Development, among others.
