The Eastern Cape health department and Africare will launch a R12m HIV/Aids prevention, care and treatment project in Lady Frere on Friday.
Africare is an American organisation which has been assisting the department in HIV related projects since 2004.
Africare chairperson, Darius Mans says their research shows that more than 60,000 people of the 300,000 population in Ama-lahleni municipality are living with HIV.
He says the project will provide technical assistance and support for the implementation of the South African Government's National HIV and AIDS and TB Strategic Plan from 2012 to 2016.
