One of the suspects arrested in connection with the kidnapping and murder of a retired Bhisho Legislature official in June last year has turned State witness.
The 29-year-old hitman Paul Adkins was sentenced in the Mthatha Magistrates Court on Thursday to an effective 35-years behind bars and will now testify against the other accused.
The 51-year-old Nosipho Jombile and her 22-year-old son were travelling from Mabaleni Locality in Tina Falls to Qumbu in June last year when their vehicle was blocked by a silver VW Polo with Durban registration plates.
Two occupants pretended to be enquiring about something from Jombile before they pointed a firearm at her and demanded money.
According to police, Jombile was dragged into their vehicle after the assailants assaulted her son with a pistol.
Jombile's body was found two days later at the Ziphunzana forest.
Regional NPA spokesperson Luxolo Tyali says her ex-husband, Phindile Jombile, who is also a former police officer, will be back in court on the 30th of August in connection with his wife’s murder.
He’s been charged along with his new wife, 40-year-old Lindiwe Komanisi Jombile, her 42-year-old sister Sibongile Komanisi, and 55-year-old Danisile Botyumpha.
They’ve been accused of murder, attempted murder, and the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
