History made at port of East London

A bit of history is being made at the port of East London with the first shipment of passenger coaches and locomotives being exported to Mozambique and Malawi.

The consignment forms part of an order for 33 coaches and locomotives which were refurbished in Cape Town, Pretoria and East London by Transnet Engineering and the order is valued at around R150-million.

Transnet Engineering says it made use of the services of Rolling Stock Rail Services and PROSEAT which refurbished 14 coaches and two power cars in East London.

Terry Taylor of the National Ports Authority says loading onto the vessel BBC Montana began on Sunday and will be completed on Tuesday when the 138 metre vessel will set sail.
