Hijackers arrested on N2 just outside of Port Elizabeth

Port Elizabeth Flying Squad members arrested three suspects and recovered a hijacked truck on the N2 freeway near Baywest Mall earlier on Thursday.

Police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg said police also fired warning shots after the hijackers were forced off the road but then fled into the nearby bush.

She said liquor, valued at around R40-thousand was recovered as well as a toy gun and a signal jamming device which was thrown out of the truck by the fleeing suspects.

It is alleged that the driver and his two passengers were stationary in Old Grahamstown Road waiting to do a delivery when five suspects armed with firearms pulled them from the truck and forced them into a Quantum minibus and drove off. The Quantum and the truck both drove towards Linton Grange where the truck continued onto the freeway and the Quantum drove off and dropped the complainant and his passengers in Booysens Park in the Chatty area.

The suspects aged between 28 and 36 are due to appear in court soon.
