A suspected hijacker, in his 20's, has been shot and killed by a member of the police in Mdantsane.
Captain Mluleki Mbi says the officer was putting in petrol at a service station in Mdantsane on Thursday when his vehicle was rammed from behind by another vehicle.
It was later established that the motorist was being held at gunpoint by two hijackers.
Mbi says that despite being pistol whipped, and shots going off inside the hijacked car, the driver ignored the instructions of his attackers and continued driving towards the service station.
Mbi says the suspects were confronted by the officer after they jumped out of the vehicle. Shots were fired and the officer retaliated.
One suspect was fatally wounded on the scene, while the other managed to flee the scene on foot.The incident is being investigated by the IPID.
