A high ranking delegation which included Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Liziwe Ntshinga and Nelson Mandela Bay Executive Mayor Nqaba Bhanga, has held discussions with the Ambassador of Somalia based in South Africa to discuss crime-related concerns affecting the Somalian businessmen in the Metro.
In the last week, four Somali businessmen were killed and one injured in robberies committed at their businesses in the townships within the Metro.
At Tuesday's meeting, Ambassador Mohammed Ali Mire, together with several community leaders, highlighted three major concerns; namely vehicle hijackings, robberies and murders emanating from these robberies.
Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the allegation of protection fees was also brought to the attention of the municipality and the police.
She says all parties agreed to work together in adhering to the by-laws and laws of the country while Lieutenant General Ntshinga added that the Somali community was not being singled out by criminals, instead criminals were targeting the vulnerable.
As a goodwill gesture, she handed the Somali Ambassador a token of appreciation from the South African Police Services.
