The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt Gen Liziwe Ntshinga, has ordered that the 72 hour activation plan be implemented for the arrests of the suspects involved in the murder of three people in Nelson Mandela Bay on Friday afternoon.
Two people were shot and killed in an apparent hit outside the ticket offices of a bus company in Storey Street in Perridgevale in an incident which also claimed the life of an innocent bystander.
Colonel Priscilla Naidu says that shortly after 4pm, a 21-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman were met with a hail of bullets as they exited the offices of the bus company after purchasing tickets to Gauteng.
An innocent bystander was also fatally shot by stray bullets as he left a supermarket on the premises.
All three deceased sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Meanwhile: Two suspects aged 29 and 36 are being held in custody after being arrested following a high speed chase involving a silver grey Honda Civic seen driving away from the crime scene.
Colonel Naidu says the vehicle with five occupants crashed into a lamppost in Neave Street in Shauderville after being chased by police.
The suspects scattered in different directions and anti-gang united members, assisted by Mount Road police, managed to arrest two of them in Peddie Street in Korsten.
Two firearms were also recovered.
Colonel Naidu says the suspects face charges of attempted murder for shooting at police officials, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, and possession of stolen property after it was ascertained that the Honda Civic had been hijacked in Humewood earlier in the day.
Detectives are also probing their possible link to the murders and are continuing the search for the remaining suspects.
