The lobby group Women and Men Against Child Abuse said it believed that the Bob Hewitt sex abuse case may have opened the doors for other victims of abuse to come forward.
Spokesperson, Germaine Vogel, said victims may also have been emboldened by the charges brought against billionaire stockbroker, Sydney Frankel.
Vogel told Algoa FM News on Wednesday that they received a call from a woman from Port Elizabeth who is busy bringing charges against her own father for allegedly sexually abusing her when she was 11 years old.
"There are several cases coming up. We were contacted again today (Weds) by an adult victim, in fact from Port Elizabeth, who is going to be opening a case against her own father. We are slowly seeing more cases coming forward and we believe it is as a result of the Bob Hewitt case and now forthcoming case against a businessman Sydney Frankel." Vogel said.
WMACA said it also "applauded Leigh-Ann Taylor for speaking out about her abuse at the hands of Bob Hewitt earlier this week, and we encourage other victims to come forward."
Miranda Friedmann, WMACA Director, 'it is time for the State to drop all limitations on the time between sexual crimes against children and when they can be reported - all child victims of sexual crimes have the right to open cases against their perpetrators and this right should not be restricted to the number of years lapsed!'
''We acknowledge how traumatic and humiliating it is to have to tell complete strangers intimate details of sexual abuse that happened at a very sensitive time in childhood - in most cases it's not just once but over and over again, police, social workers, doctors, psychiatrists, psychologists, prosecutors, magistrates in public courts, journalists, the world! Incidences that you would rather not remember, you have to speak about, at any time details are required from you -- it is heart breaking for our WMACA Kidz Clinic social workers managing children through this process," Friedman said.
Meanwhile, Hewitt, who was sentenced to an effective six years on two counts of rape and one of sexual abuse, had been granted leave to appeal his sentence in the Supreme Court of Appeal.
However, his application to appeal his conviction was refused and his bail extended.
The matter is still pending.
