The PE branch of the SA Weather Service is warning of heavy rains over the entire Eastern Cape from Friday as a cut-off low moves over the country.
It's going to be a wet and cold weekend, with heavy falls in excess of 50 millimetres per day in the former Transkei and Amathole Districts coupled with snowfalls in the Drakensberg Mountains.
Weather Office office spokesperson, Garth Sampson, says steady rain over the past three days have already resulted in the ground over most areas becoming heavily saturated which could lead to flooding in places, even with less significant falls and people in low lying areas are urged to take the necessary precautions.
He says heavy falls are also expected in the Sundays River, Port Alfred and Nelson Mandela Metro areas.
Sampson says Nelson Mandela Bay's main supply dams are currently at a combined 83% of capacity but will receive significant run-off over the next few days.
"With these cold and wet conditions, people are advised to be vigilant on the roads and small stock farmers are advised to take the necessary precautions. Condition are expected to start clearling from the west on Sunday night," he said.
