The mother of a Port Elizabeth man who was stabbed to death in Central has called for stiff punishment for those responsible for her son's murder.
Twenty-six-year-old Clyde Byrns was stabbed in the neck while chasing after three people who had stolen his girlfriend's handbag in Rink Street.
The incident happened in July, after the couple had withdrawn money from an ATM.
Speaking to Algoa FM News outside court on Tuesday, single mother Thereasa Van Wyk said she wants the people responsible to be punished severely as they had robbed him of many happy years.
"Everybody says something needs to be done the death penalty needs to come in or life, but nobody does stand together. Clive was my only son. I have been a single parent for 26 years and they have taken away my son's life and they killed me" she said.
Three suspects appeared in court on Tuesday in connection with Byrns' murder.
The case against Angelina Job, Donovan Swartz and Sithembele Jonas was postponed to October 30th. They remain in custody.
