Two Eastern Cape Health Department officials are among three people who will appear in court in Mthatha on Thursday for allegedly stealing medicine from a state depot in the city.
Five people were arrested in connection with the theft but its understood that two have now turned state's witness.
Eastern Cape Health Department spokesperson, Sizwe Kupelo, says the stolen medicine had been sold to private doctors.
"The issue relates to the theft of medicine at the Mthatha depo and later when the officials investigated the depot was burned down which is still a subject of police investigation. The R30 million worth of medicine that was exposed to the fire will only be disposed this weekend" he said.
