Eastern Cape Health MEC Sindiswa Gomba is on a week-long visit to hospitals in Nelson Mandela Bay.
She’s already announced sweeping interventions at Livingstone hospital by confirming Dr Mtandeki Xhamlashe as the new Acting CEO.
Gomba also strengthened the regional team led by Dr Litha Matiwane.
The MEC also announced the concept of food gobblers that will be utilized in the tertiary and district hospitals in disposing of food waste.
A service provider to work with existing general workers will be utilized for deep cleaning to ensure that hospitals are clean.
The MEC’s team also uncovered inaccuracy in the number of reported COVID-19 deaths in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro.
She said an investigation had been launched to determine the cause of the under-reporting and that corrective actions would be taken.
