Eastern Cape Health MEC, Pumza Dyantyi has found that Livingstone Hospital in Port Elizabeth is ready for the Ebola Virus in all respects during a recent visit to the hospital.
In reply to a question from the DA's Elsa van Lingen, National Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi told the National Council of Provinces that the MEC had also found that the condition of the wards and other hospital areas visited was satisfactory.
Replying to another question, the Minister said the Provincial Health Department conceded that the hygiene conditions at Livingstone Hospital had been less than the acceptable norms and standards.
Motsoaledi said this was largely due to shortages of staff across various sections of the hospital because of budgetary challenges, adding that despite these, the hospital management had implemented an improvement plan.
