Patients and healthcare workers at the Motherwell NU8 Clinic in Nelson Mandela Bay were removed from the facility with staff forcefully chased out by protesters on Wednesday night.
Spokesperson Sizwe Kupelo says a group of protesters stormed the facility late on Wednesday and intimidated both staff and patients.
He says the violent protests in Nelson Mandela Bay have now spilt over to health facilities and is condemned in the strongest possible terms.
Health MEC, Nomakhosazana Meth further called on the police to leave no stone unturned in bringing those behind the protests and intimidation to justice.
She said while they understand people have the right to protest, they cannot and should not infringe on the rights of other people.
Meth said with healthcare facilities being affected, a situation might be created where healthcare workers might be too scared to work in communities where they are targeted.
"We are also concerned about the transportation of covid-19 vaccines as it seems nothing and no one is safe from these protesters," Meth said.
The Department further said they would provide counselling to staff who might have been traumatised by the incident, and further calls on those behind the protest to desist from their intimidating tactics and instead work with authorities to find amicable solutions to their grievances.
