Day Zero looms for Kouga Municipality

Kouga Municipality has urged all residents and businesses to use water only when absolutely necessary and to erect rainwater tanks where possible.

Executive Mayor, Horatio Hendricks, says this is in a bid to prolong day zero.

He says the area is expected to be without water within the next three to four months should no significant rainfall drops in the catchment area.

Horatio says there is already only about nine weeks of water supply left from the Gamtoos Valley, with residents from Thornhill already receiving water from municipal water trucks.

He says Hankey and Patensie have been hit the second hardest as they currently depend completely on the Kouga Dam for potable water since the water levels dropped to just over 4% this week.

Horatio says residents are once again urged to adhere to the restricted water allocation of 50 litres per person, daily.
