The Hawks in the Eastern Cape have appealed to the public for help in tracking down 41-year-old Owen Bruce James, who is wanted for questioning in connection with a fraud and theft case.
Spokesperson, Captain Anelisa Ngcakani, said a warrant for his arrest was issued by the Zwelitsha Magistrate's Court in 2016.
She said James had allegedly defrauded the Eastern Cape Education Department of approximately R600 000 through fraudulent transactions.
"On 30 April 2010, the Eastern Cape department of education discovered that 14 fraudulent transactions were executed at the department where payments were made to four schools".
"The police said the bank details to which the fraudulent payments were made did not belong to legitimate beneficiaries of the department."
Ngcakani said one of the bank accounts belonged to James.
She said anyone with information that may lead to his arrest is urged to contact the investigating officer, Lieutenant-Colonel Zane Johnson at 082 941 8588.
