The Hawks in the Eastern Cape have secured the conviction and sentencing to fines, of two company directors and a businessman on charges of fraud.
Spokesperson, Warrant Officer Bonnie Nxumalo, says Sibongile and Khanyisa Gobile were ordered to pay SARS R2 million in instalments of R250 000 for failing to submit VAT returns between April 2013 and August 2016.
She said their company, Investment PTY Limited, which had contracts with five municipalities and two government departments, was also fined R100 000 in the East London Regional Court on Thursday.
Meanwhile, in a separate matter businessman, Mandisi Gcoko, was fined R20 000 for failing to disclose rental income from Amatole District Municipality in his tax returns between 2009 and 2012.
Nxumalo says Gcoko was also ordered to pay SARS R126 000.
