Hawks investigating financial mismanagement in Oudtshoorn

The Western Cape Provincial Government has confirmed that the Hawks are presently investigating cases of financial mismanagement, fraud and corruption in Oudtshoorn, flowing from a detailed report prepared and presented by the Provincial Forensic Services.
Western Cape Local Government Minister Anton Bredell says in a statement that the development is a further indication of the work being done to fix Oudtshoorn.
The Oudtshoorn intervention was initiated on the 31st of July 2015 in terms of SECTION 139(1(b) of the Constitution and remains on-going.Bredell's office says a forensic investigation report was handed to the Minister in March of this year.
In the report, 132 transgressions, mainly in terms municipal policies and other legislation were identified, as were two cases of alleged corruption and eight of fraud. Three affected personnel have since left the employment of the municipality and the Oudtshoorn Municipality has now embarked on disciplinary proceedings against three more persons implicated in the report.
