The State presented closing argument in the PE High Court on Tuesday in the trial of 32-year-old Sibenzile Simane, who faces a string of charges relating to a horrific attack on a woman and her children on a farm in the Hankey district in March of last year.
State prosecutor Megan September submitted that the State had proved beyond a reasonable doubt that Simane was the man responsible.
Simane stands accused of being the sole attacker in a 4-hour-ordeal, in which the 44-year-old mother was shot and raped in front of her three young children, aged 10 to 16 at the time.
September told the court that despite the fact the woman was a single witness, the accused was well known to the family.
She says this was also corroborated with testimony from DNA experts who confirmed Simane was indeed at the crime scene.
His defence council, advocate Jodene Coertzen told the court, she had no disputes and was simply following her client's instruction.
He maintains he was not the attacker and that police planted his DNA at the crime scene.
Judgement will be handed down on Wednesday.
Meanwhile; the Eastern Cape woman who was the victim of a brutal attack on a farm in Hankey last March has come out publicly to recall the events of the night she said changed their lives in an instant.
The woman, who joined the organisation Afriforum at a press conference live-streamed her ordeal on their Facebook page.
The victim, whose name is known to Algoa FM News, identified herself by her first name.
As she did in court, she recounted the harrowing events of the night that an enraged 32-year-old Sibenzile Simane shot his way into their farmhouse while her husband was away on a hunting trip.
