A 58-year-old woman was injured when gunmen opened fire on the taxi she was travelling in, in Motherwell, Port Elizabeth on Tuesday night.
Spokesperson Captain Andre Beetge says the privately owned taxi was dropping off passengers in Soweto on Sea at about 10 pm when unknown gunmen opened fire.
The taxi driver sped off towards the satellite police station in Zwide to seek help when he realised that one of his passengers was injured.
Police immediately called an ambulance.
Beetge says the attackers, however, followed the taxi to the Zwide satellite office where they fired more shots at the parked vehicle.
Police who were inside the office were under the impression that the attackers were targetting them and shot out the lights of the police station.
The unknown suspects then fled from the scene.
The 58-year-old injured woman was taken to hospital for medical treatment.
The motive for the attack is unknown at this stage and no arrests have been made.
