A ground-breaking judgment by the Grahamstown High Court instructing Bhisho to dissolve the Makana Council has sparked interest from legal eagles in other parts of the country.
The judgment was delivered this week in favour of the Unemployed Peoples Movement who complained about the collapse of service delivery and alleged maladministration in Council.
And, according to an attorney, Brin Brody, of Wheeldon, Rushmere and Cole a similar application has been brought on behalf of a civil body for the dissolution of the Enoch Mgijima Local Council in Komani, formerly Queenstown.
He says he has been approached by attorneys in the Free State who expressed interest in bringing a similar application with the Johannesburg Bar also asking for a copy of the Judgment.
Brody believes this will set a precedent that will be utilized in Municipalities that have failed its residents.
Meanwhile, Brody told Algoa FM News that Premier Lubabalo Mabuyane has the right to appeal this week's court ruling.
The Premier's office said the judgment has far-reaching implications, adding that the order will be suspended until a final decision is taken on the matter.
Brody says, however, that he does not believe the Appeal by Bhisho will succeed and will be a waste of taxpayers' money.
