The Eastern Cape Education Department has confirmed the suspension of a learner at Grey Junior school in Port Elizabeth who was involved in an alleged altercation in which another learner was seriously injured.
Earlier, Algoa FM News reported that the injured learner was due to undergo surgery on his face following the incident at the school on Monday afternoon.
Eastern Cape Education Department spokesperson, Mali Mtima, said the Department was still expecting a full report on the matter which he said remained under investigation.
He said there was a meeting at the Grey Junior school on Tuesday afternoon with Education district officials.
"I can confirm that the child has been suspended but will be allowed to write examinations. A date for a disciplinary hearing has been set but we would like to allow the child some time so that at the end of the day this does not disrupt and or disturb him while studying," Mtima said.
