"Green water at Newton Park indoor pool an embarrassment" DA

The Democratic Alliance says the green water issue at the Newton Park indoor swimming pool, is very unfortunate and an embarrassment for the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality.

The DA's spokesperson for Sports, Arts, Recreation and Culture in the municipality, Andrew Whitfield has blamed a lack of maintenance for the situation.

"I believe that there is a general lack of maintenance on our swimming pool facilities specifically across the municipality, until such time as we get a specific answer as to what the reason was for the burst pipe one can only believe that it was a lack of maintenance. It is also worth nothing that for the next two financial years there is no provision in the capital budget allocated for swimming pools

Whitfield intends taking up the matter up with the Executive Director of Economic Development and Recreational Services, Zolile Siswana.

It is the second embarrassment in just weeks for the Metro, which calls itself the water sports capital of South Africa, after the hastily arranged Splash Festival.
