Great Brak learners march in memory of murdered class mates

Hundreds of learners from the Great Brak Secondary School have marched to the area in Little Brak River in Powertown where a fellow learner was recently found dead.

Three teenage girls from the school have been murdered in the past eight months.

Two bodies were found barely one kilometer from their homes in Powertown.

Various community leaders and police members were present at the march on Thursday. The chairperson for ward 5, Anton Dellemijn told Algoa FM News that the tragic murders had actually brought the Garden Route community together.

Dellemijn said the community has had enough of violent crimes and that it is unacceptable that young learners with great potential are the victims of crime.

A special memorial service was held in the Little Brak River community hall for Bonique Jansen who was found dead between bushes after she went missing.

A fellow 17 year-old learner, Lesley Ann Maya was also found dead between reeds in the same neighbourhood a few weeks ago.

The only child of the Witbooi family in Great Brak River, 16 year-old Elouise Witbooi was also found dead in a bushy area near the secondary school in November last year.

No suspects have been arrested.
