Buffalo City's new executive Mayor Alfred Mtsi has delivered his first state of the Metro address at the Abbotsford Christian centre in East London.
Mtsi was sworn in along with his deputy Xola Phakathi on the 11th of June after the Metro's former Mayor Zukiswa Ncitha and her deputy Themba Tinta were reshuffled in a decision by the ANC's Provincial Executive Committee.
Mtsi said infrastructure development was one of his key focus areas, and would include the delivery of electricity.
"The metro has embarked on the programme of electrifying informal settlements, so far almost 1000 shacks have been electrified and this programme continues in the next financial year. We will also embark on awareness campaigns and at the same time we would like to warn those who connect illegally that serious steps will be taken."
Mtsi said maintaining the Metro's road network was also critical to the long term welfare of Buffalo City.
"We have a massive multi million rand roads development, we do accept some challenges, particularly the issue of potholes. We will follow the pothole fixing programme that the metro has budgeted for. We encourage our people to inform officials on time when such does not happen on the stated period." said Mtsi.
