East London couple in court on multi-million rand corruption charge

An East London couple appeared briefly in the city's magistrate's court on Thursday on 53 counts of fraud and 123 counts of money laundering.

Police spokesperson, Captain Stephen Marais, says detectives from the Commercial Branch of the Hawks head earlier arrested the couple for allegedly defrauding the Twelve Apostles' Church in Christ in East London of close on R7 million.

46 year-old Zola Maziyana  and his 38 year-old wife Zukiswa were arrested at their home in Sunnyridge.

They'll be back in court today for a formal bail application.
