A Gqeberha woman has been found guilty on multiple counts of tax fraud amounting to R2.4 million.
The Hawks said 42-year-old Linda Ann Labuschagne was convicted on Wednesday in the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court.
Spokesperson, Lieutenant-Colonel Philani Nkwalase, said she was arrested on 20 July 2021, after two cases of fraud were reported in 2019 and 2020 respectively by her former employer in the tax consulting sector.
He said the Hawks' Serious Commercial Investigation Unit probed the matter, finding that Labuschagne had convinced clients of her former employer to pay all tax-related dues to an 'updated' bank account.
“The said account was hers and not that of the South African Revenue Services (SARS) as she purported,” he said.
Nkwalase said Labuschagne was convicted on 119 counts of fraud committed between 2017 and 2020.
The matter was postponed to 1 July for sentencing.
