Gqeberha police confiscate abalone worth R500 000

SAPS

Gqeberha police have confiscated abalone with an estimated value of R500 000.

Spokesperson, Colonel Pricilla Naidu says members of the Swartkops police station and the K-9 unit followed up on information about suspected abalone poachers in Redhouse in the early hours of Saturday morning, when they noticed the suspect vehicle.

She says police chased after the vehicle and pulled it over.

Colonel Naidu says the suspects jumped out of their Nissan Navara and fled into bushes.

She says 2 536 units of abalone and the vehicle were confiscated.

An inquiry docket was opened for investigation and no arrests have yet been made.
