Gqeberha police arrest four suspects and recover three hijacked vehicles

Gqeberha police arrested four suspects and recovered three hijacked vehicles on Saturday evening.

Spokesperson, Colonel Pricilla Naidu says members of the Flying Squad responded to a tracker alert of an Isuzu bakkie that was hijacked in New Brighton.

She says the vehicle was later found abandoned in Gamlana Street in New Brighton.

Shortly afterward, reports were received of a Nissan Micra being hijacked in Kwazakele, and a Ford Fiesta was also hijacked in New Brighton.

Colonel Naidu says the suspects spotted the unmarked police vehicle and a chase ensued.

During a shootout, te driver of the suspected vehicle lost control and hit a pole in Young Park.

Four suspects were apprehended and a replica firearm was recovered.

One suspect sustained gunshot wounds to the head while another sustained injuries during the accident.

Colonel Naidu says a fifth suspect managed to flee.

The suspects, aged between 25 and 30 are expected to appear in the New Brighton magistrate court soon on charges of attempted murder, possession of a hijacked vehicle, pointing of a firearm, illegal possession of ammunition, and reckless and negligent driving.
