Gqeberha mass shooting victims were college students

Police have released the names of the four young people who died when three gunmen opened fire on a group of people at a house in Kwazakhele in Gqeberha early on Sunday morning.

Spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said the female victims were Busiwe Notyawe of Coffee Bay, Sesethu Dweba of Lusikisiki, and Asanda Ngubo, of Komani.

They were aged between 19 and 23.

Naidu said the male 29-year-old male victim, Bulumko Ngube, was the owner of the house on Nomjila Street in Kwazakele where the shooting occurred.

The three women were students at the Eastern Cape Midlands College and attended the Heath Park campus in Bethelsdorp.

Naidu said no arrests have yet been made after three gunmen opened fire on a group of people at the house early on Sunday morning.

Meanwhile, this latest mass shooting comes hot on the heels of another multiple shooting incidents where eight people were killed and three others wounded when three gunmen opened fir on people attending a birthday celebration at a house in Maqanda Street in Kwazakhele.

Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Nomthetheleli Mene called on the communities of Kwazakhele and New Brighton to join hands with the police to stop the killings in their communities.
