Gqeberha police arrested a woman and are searching for three accomplices following a house robbery and shootout in Kwazakhele on Monday night.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said they also recovered stolen property taken during a house robbery earlier in the evening in Manana Street.
She said the home-owners vehicle was also taken.
“At about 19:25 police received, and followed up on information that the stolen VW Polo was in Stofile Street in Kwazakhele, and travelling towards Maqanda Street in New Brighton.”
She said a chase ensued where there was also an exchange of gunfire between the suspects and the police.
“No injuries were sustained during the shootout. The suspects abandoned the vehicle and ran away. A case of attempted murder, for shooting at the police, was opened for further investigation.
Naidu said the vehicle and stolen cell phones have been recovered.
She said at about 01:45 this morning, the same team swooped on a house in Rolilalha Street, in Soweto on Sea, where the rest of the stolen property was recovered. A 31-year-old female was arrested and detained on a charge of being in the possession of the suspected stolen property.
Naidu said police are still on the hunt for the three suspects, while the woman will appear in court soon.
She said they're also investigating a possible link to an earlier incident when a teenager was robbed of her cell phone at gunpoint outside a church in Stofile Street, during which a shot was fired in the air.
No one was injured.
