Daughter’s testimony ‘seals fate’ of EL dad

File

The testimony of his nine-year-old daughter is what cemented the fate of a former Correctional Services Officer charged with the brutal murder of the mother of his four children in their quarters at East London Correctional Centre.

The East London High Court on Tuesday found 48-year-old Simpiwe Mxosa guilty of the murder of his wife Bulelwa, who was hacked to death with a bush knife.

He was arrested last March in the City and several hours after he left for the police station to report finding his wife’s body.

In his ruling, Acting Judge Mbulelo Nqumse said that the story that Mxosa gave about the day of the murder, was “inherently improbable and must be rejected as evidence.”

He further found that Mxosa’s daughter, who was present on that fateful day, was a credible and competent witness, whose evidence could not be “faulted.”

Judge Nqumse said when the child testified in October, her recollection of events was “meticulous”, and she could not have mistaken her father for the murderer if it was not so.

Bulelwa Mxosa’s father, who has attended all court proceedings thus far, said he looked forward to the sentencing, adding that it would finally bring him peace.

He said he only hoped that the sentence would fit the “heinous crime.”

The matter continues on Wednesday.
