A Gqeberha man who was out on bail on two separate criminal matters has fallen foul of the law again.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said the 38-year-old was arrested in the early hours of Sunday morning after leaving a convenience store at a garage in Cape Road.
She said when he exited the shop police approached and upon searching him, found a packet of Tik and a pipe in one of his pockets.
“A 9mm pistol and nine rounds of ammunition were found on the passenger seat under his backpack.”
Naidu said he was arrested for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, the possession of drugs, and the contravention of the Disaster Management Act.
He is due to appear in court on Wednesday on this matter.
Meanwhile, Naidu said the same suspect was arrested on 22 March 2021 for also being in the possession of a prohibited firearm, ammunition as well as suspected stolen property.
She said during that arrest earlier this month, police stopped and searched his black VW Citi Golf and found a “9mm pistol, with the serial number filed off, and ammunition”.
“Several sunglasses and prescription glasses were found in the vehicle. He was released on R1000 bail and the case postponed to 21 May."
Naidu said the same suspect would also be in court two days earlier, on 19 May, for a house robbery in Broadwood last November where two suspects were arrested.
He was also granted bail in this matter.
