Police said they were investigating an attempted house robbery in Seaview on Friday night during which two people were assaulted with crowbars in a home in a complex in Old Seaview Road.
Spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said the 64-year-old complainant and his wife were with friends when three men, two armed with crowbars and one with a knife, approached them in the lounge.
She said a male visitor was beaten over the head with a crowbar, while a second suspect attacked the complainant, also hitting him over the head with a crowbar.
“The complainant managed to grab his licensed firearm and fired shots at the suspects. The suspects then fled on foot,” Naidu said.
While police were still at the scene, she said neighbourhood watch members informed them that a body was lying in bushes not far from the house on Rocco Street.
“The deceased approximately 25-years-old sustained a gunshot wound to the chest. SAPS Walmer detectives are investigating a possible link between the attempted house robbery and the murder,” she said.
Naidu said the complainant’s firearm was taken in for ballistic analysis, adding that no arrests were made.
