Gqeberha High School in mourning as pupil is gunned down in streets of Kwazakhele

Alexander Road High

A high school in Gqeberha has been plunged into mourning following the death of one of its pupils who was shot and killed.

Fifteen-year-old Inako Magidiwana, a Grade 9 student at Alexander Road High was walking home from a nearby shop in Kwazakhele on Sunday when she was killed.

This was just hours after the mass shooting in the area which left eight people dead who were celebrating a 50th birthday party.

Police spokesperson Captain Andre Beetge says Magidwana was walking home in Mandleni street at about 9 pm when two suspects in an unknown black vehicle pulled over.

He says one suspect allegedly shouted that he was going to shoot and the teenager ran away.

She was shot in the back and died on the scene.

A teacher from Alexander Road High, who spoke to Algoa FM News on condition of anonymity said Magidiwana was a sweet and positive child.

"I think it's incredibly tragic, unfair, a young life lost - a little 15-year-old who still had so much ahead of her. It is just awful, the plague of violence in our country is particularly heavy when innocent young people are hurt or lose their lives, he said.

According to the teacher, a memorial service will be planned for the slain learner soon.
