Gqeberha police opened an inquest docket after a man and his son died in a shack fire in William Slammert Drive in Bethelsdorp during the early hours of Saturday morning.
Spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu says police responded to a complaint of a shack on fire, and the fire brigade was summoned.
She says the fire was extinguished but at around 5 am it erupted in a shack next to the one that was gutted in the same yard at the back of the main house.
Colonel Naidu says two men were later found in the second shack.
The deceased were identified as Aston McKay in his 50's and his son, Alistair in his 20's.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
