A bookkeeper at the Gqeberha branch of Bidfood (Pty) Ltd has been arrested and charged in the city's Specialised Commercial Crimes Court with fraud and theft involving an amount of more than R6 million.
34 year-old Maryke van Vuuren of Algoa Park appeared in court on Thursday where she was released on bail of R5000 and ordered to appear in court again on the 18th of October.
According to the State, she allegedly pocketed cash received from debtors on a number of occasions between 2018 and 2020.
Van Vuuren is accused of concealing the shortage by falsifying the bank reconciliation statements at every month end.
The total amount stolen from Bidfood (Pty) Ltd was R6.13 million.
