Police in Gqeberha are investigating a case of attempted murder and crimen injuria after a group of bikers allegedly viciously assaulted a 35-year-old woman on Saturday.
The victim, who is currently in hospital, was allegedly involved in an accident with one of the bikers along Circular Drive where police were called out to the scene.
Spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the woman phoned her 43-year-old boyfriend to come and help her after an altercation broke out.
She says it is alleged that when police left the accident scene, a group of men started to verbally abuse the woman and her boyfriend.
Naidu says it is not clear what sparked the altercation, but she said the woman had filmed the incident before one man is seen yelling at her and trying to take the phone away, threatening to kill her if she did not hand over the phone.
One man can be heard repeatedly saying "Do you want to die?".
Police said the group allegedly damaged her boyfriend's car by smashing the windscreen of his red Chevrolet, breaking the window wipers and kicking in the doors and lights.
Naidu says when a scuffle broke out the woman's boyfriend was also assaulted.
She said police were now investigating a case of reckless and negligent driving, assault, attempted murder, malicious damage to property and crimen injuria.
