Gqeberha police and representatives of the Environmental Health Committee shut down yet another Bakery on Wednesday for operating under unhygienic conditions.
The closure of the Bakery in Sanctor is the second bakery to be shut within a week, under the Foodstuffs, Cosmetics, and Disinfectants Act 54/1972 - concern hygienic requirements for the handling, transporting and storage of food.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the Environmental Health Department received a "tip-off" stating that bread was being baked in an unhygienic and filthy facility.
According to Naidu, the bakery was shut down following an inspection at the premises at 10:00 on Wednesday.
Naidu said baking ingredients and machinery had been confiscated.
A biscuit manufacturing company situated in Korsten was shut down for similar reasons last week.
Wednesday's operation was conducted by Border Policing members together with the Environmental Health Department, brand agents, and the National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications (NRCS).
