'Good Samaritan' turns villain in Uitenhage bike robbery

Bike stolen during armed robbery along the R334, Motherwell Road

Supplied

Police in Uitenhage are investigating an armed robbery that allegedly took place along the R334 last week where a young cyclist was robbed of his expensive bike.

A spokesperson Captain Gerda Swart says the 19-year-old cyclist was on the R334 Motherwell Road on Wednesday morning when his bike chain fell off.
She says whilst the man was busy trying to fix the chain, he noticed a white Nissan 1400 bakkie stopping in front of him.
She says a passenger got out of the bakkie and started complementing the cyclist on the features of his bike.
It is alleged that the person then drew a firearm and the teenager stepped back releasing his bike.
Captain Swart says the unknown man then loaded the bicycle on the back of the bakkie and drove in the direction of Port Elizabeth.

Police are appealing to anyone who has any information about the robbery or the whereabouts of the bicycle to contact Detective Constable Frederick Bosman on 078 196 6590.
