A man who came to the aid of a Uitenhage woman who had a bag filled with cash snatched from her was shot while tussling with the suspect.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Majola Nkohli, said the incident happened on Monday in Rich Street.
“A passer-by who witnessed the incident gave chase and tried to overpower the suspect. It is believed that a second suspect armed with a firearm accosted the two while they were tussling over the bag and shot and wounded a 32-year-old man,” he said.
He has been admitted to hospital.
Nkhohli said the two suspects fled with the bag which contained a large but undisclosed amount of money. A case of attempted murder and aggravated robbery is under investigation.
The police have also warned business owners and stokvel members against carrying large sums of cash.
