Metro spokesperson Mthubanzi Mniki said while the City welcomed last month’s rains, it was very aware that not much difference had been made to the dam levels and therefore appealed to consumers to make every effort to continue using water sparingly.
On the 19th of July, the Metro’s main supply dams were at a combined 10.06% and according to the latest figures released by the municipality on Monday, they’re now at a combined 10.55% of capacity.
Local weather office spokesperson Garth Sampson also cautioned that the latest seasonal forecast is not looking particularly promising either.
Sampson said there had been some light rain overnight with 3.6 mm measured at the airport and 3.2 mm at Third Avenue dip in Newton Park, but that there was barely a drop in the catchment area in the Langkloof.
Some good rain was received further up the coast with Port Alfred measuring a welcome 10 mm of rain overnight.
