Graphic video footage depicting how three people were gunned down on Good Friday in Gqeberha two years ago was played in the city's high court on Monday when the trial against the alleged shooters resumed.
Jonathan Bruintjies, Davidene van Zyl, and Fortunate Nyathi were gunned down near the offices of the Intercape bus services in Gqeberha on 2 April 2021.
The state alleges that Neavan du Preez, 36, Jody Cloete, 29, Austin Augustus, 25, and Justin van Rensburg, 28, are responsible for their deaths.
They face a slew of charges including murder, attempted murder, theft of a motor vehicle, and the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.
On that day the three were allegedly dropped off by van Rensburg who is said to have been the getaway driver and lay in wait for Jonathan Bruintjies and Davidene van Zyl before they shot and killed them.
Nyathi was an innocent bystander.
The investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Xolani Sokanyile walked the court through the footage during his testimony on Monday.
Among others, the footage taken in Storey Street shows what is alleged to be three of the four accused opening fire on the deceased.
The three men are allegedly seen pointing firearms at Bruintjies and van Zyl, who were walking a few steps ahead of Nyathi.
All three of the deceased were walking from Spar, where they had purchased snacks as they intended to board the bus to Johannesburg.
When the shots were fired, Bruintjies and Nyathi made a run for it, but collapsed just a few feet away.
Van Zyl, who were allegedly sandwiched in between two of the accused, was shot at close range.
Bruintjies and van Zyl were allegedly targeted in an apparent ongoing gang dispute over territory.
The accused are allegedly members of the "Mechanics/Hondekoppe" gang, while Bruintjies was a member of the "Narries" gang.
Shortly after the shooting, police spotted their getaway vehicle, a silver grey Honda Civic, in Newton Park where the fleeing suspects opened fire on the police.
Their speeding car, which was stolen in Humewood, came to a standstill after hitting a pole in Schauderville, with men fleeing in different directions.
Du Preez and Cloete were apprehended in Highfield Road, with each allegedly in possession of a firearm, while the third co-accused was arrested three months later.
The trial continues.
