Girl shot dead and father wounded in PE's Northern areas

A 12-year old girl has been shot dead in her house in Bethelsdorp, in Port Elizabeth's northern areas.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the family was asleep when they heard loud knocking on their front door at around 11 o'clock on Tuesday night, but refused to open the door.She says the suspects then went around to the back of the house, kicked open the door and entered.

Naidu says the young girl died from a single shot, while her 43-year old father was shot three times and wounded.She says the motive for the shooting is still unknown, and police are investigating a case of murder and attempted murder.
