Satellite data shows that a fire in the Grahamstown area, situated south west of the city, measures around 15km across.
Spokesperson for the PE branch of the SA Weather Service, Garth Sampson says although the Fire Danger Index is not in the dangerous category, dry north westerly berg winds will fan the fire, as they pick up to a moderate strength by Wednesday afternoon.
"The bad news is that the wind is going to start picking up from the North-West. It is a dry-warm wind that could pick uo to about 15 knots and it will fan the fire quite a bit. There is no relief of rain until Friday"Sampson says a strong southwesterly wind is also expected from Thursday evening.
"If they do not kill the fire before tomorrow night, a strong south westerly is going to pass through fueling the fire" he said.
