AfriForum's Head of Private Prosecution, Gerrie Nel, says the lobby group has taken the decision to force the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) to make a decision on the Prosecuting of EFF leader, Julius Malema.
Nel says the NPA has been giving AfriForum the run around for several years on its decision to prosecute Malema on a string of charges.
He says their failure to take action cripples the criminal justice system and that Afriforum will head to the high court to force them to make a decision.
This comes after the NPA’s delay in prosecuting Malema on his controversial engineering company, On-Point which was allegedly involved in fraudulent tender deals in Limpopo.
Afriforum also wants the NPA to prosecute the firebrand EFF leader for the alleged assault of an on-duty police officer and for firing shots in public during the EFF’s 5-year celebration in Mdantsane, East London.
AfriForum submitted complaints against Malema at the Lyttleton Police Station in August last year after he fired off several shots which were captured on video.
The video clip from which the charges originate was widely shared on social media.
